Urquhart Castle, looking north

Image 1: Urquhart Castle, looking north. The main keep of Urquhart Castle is seen in the middle of the picture, with Loch Ness in the background.

Ditch and Bridge

Image 2: Ditch and Bridge. View of the bridge across the ditch surrounding the castle. The bridge leads to the gatehouse.

Main Tower

Image 3: Main Tower. A picture of the main tower, as seen from just outside the main gate. This picture was taken just after I crossed the bridge.

Sea Gate

Image 4: Sea Gate. The steps lead down to the loch. The gate above the steps is the sea gate, which protected the castle from invasion by way of the loch. This picture does a good job of showing the ruined state of the castle. The main tower is in the background.

View from the Tower

Image 5: View from the Tower. View from the top of the main tower, looking south. This picture gives a good idea of the rolling nature of the terrain on which the castle was built.

These photographs were taken with a Nikon FG-20 manual SLR, using a Nikkor 24mm - 50mm f2.8 wide angle zoom lens. The images were captured on Kodak Ektachrome slide film.
