Michigan State Memorial

Michigan State Memorial (26K)

Image: Michigan State Memorial. The Michigan State Memorial is located at the point where the Corinth Road, the Corinth-Pittsburg Road, and the Hamburg-Savannah Road intersect. The memorial, to all Michigan troops in both Union armies, is near the location of Harlbut's headquarters.

On April 6, 1862, Union troops retreated through this area, past the area of the monument, after the Hornets' Nest position collapsed.

On April 7, the troops of Buell's Army of the Ohio moved through this position as the Union army counterattacked the Confederate army south of this position.

This photograph was taken in March, 2000 with a Nikon F-601 autofocus SLR, using a Nikkor 24mm - 50mm f2.8 wide angle zoom lens. The image was captured on Fuji ISO 200 speed film.
