National Cemetery

National Cemetery (37K)

Image 1: National Cemetery. Not surprising for one of the bloodiest battlefields of the war, the National Cemetery at Sharpsburg is quite large. It is also quiet. It is located on a part of the battlefield that didn't see much action, although it was not too distant from the fighting at the Bloody Lane. This photograph looks south, into the cemetery. The monument in the foreground is to the 20th New York Infantry. The monument in the background is the US Soldier Statue.

National Cemetery, looking towards the entrance (34K)

Image 2: National Cemetery, looking towards the entrance. This view looks west, out of the cemetery. The cemetery, more than any other part of the battlefield, appears timeless; these photographs were taken years apart.

These photographs were taken with a Nikon F-601 autofocus SLR, using a Nikkor 24mm - 50mm f2.8 wide angle zoom lens. The image was captured on Kodak Royal Gold 100 film.
