Maryland Monument

Maryland Monument (50K)

Image 1: Maryland monument. This photograph was taken near the Visitors Center. The centre would be out of the frame to the right. The Dunker Church, site of some of the most bitter fighting of the battle, was behind me when I tooks this photograph. The monument commemorates the Maryland regiments that fought for the Union at Antietam.

Image 2: Maryland monument, close up. While many Civil War monuments tended towards the garrish, the Maryland monument is striking and one of my favourites. It's design encourages visitors towards quiet contemplation.

These photographs were taken with a Nikon F-601 autofocus SLR, using a Nikkor 24mm - 50mm f2.8 wide angle zoom lens. The image was captured on Kodak Royal Gold 100 film.
